Mrs Cano Cortes was looking for a bright and modern kitchen to reflect the personality of her Notting Hill flat and to keep up with her upbeat family life.
We interviewed Life expert designer, Daniela, to discuss the project...
"Mrs Cano Cortes’ property is a beautiful three bedroom flat in the heart of Notting Hill, London.
"She shares it with her partner and her two young children, so their new kitchen was to be a timeless family space that would grow as they do- perfect now for life with little ones, then ideal for hosting family meals and gatherings as they grow older."
"In terms of design, the client's main request was that we created a bright and modern space to reflect her upbeat family life, whilst keeping it timeless. We chose to go with the sleek design of our Capita handleless slab door in White- perfect for accessorising with pops of bold colour and changing up style should the family want to in the future, without completely redecorating.
"To create a focal statement, we used our beautifully textured Alpina door in Burnt Ash for the central island, and to break up the white run of the L-shaped units, we used the stunning Strata Sinuous White worksurface as an eye-catching splashback, with rich greys and silver tones to bring cool life to the space."
"The client’s previous kitchen was lacking the practical food preparation space the family needed, and there wasn’t enough storage to house their kitchen essentials. This was why it was so important for Mrs Cano Cortes to have the ovens, sink and hob all on the L-shaped run of units, freeing up the entire island workspace for food preparation and dining purposes."
"In terms of storage, the ‘wow-factor’ integrated pantry offers all the space needed to house essentials and kitchen appliances, allowing the worksurfaces to remain clutter free. We also designed low-level storage below the open wall shelves, to give the children the perfect place to tidy away their toys- truly making the space perfect for the whole family."
"I would recommend bringing contrast into a modern kitchen design, such as a textured statement island, or a striking splashback. This helps to draw the eye, creates the ‘wow factor’ and really helps to bring a space to life."
